TheYouTriceps - Lying Barbell Extensions

This exercise is used to work the triceps. It is very useful to have a training partner for this exercise.

The exercise

  • Find a flat bench and lie down on your back.
  • Put your feet flat on the floor, with a shoulders width apart.
  • Place your hands behind your head and let your training partner give you the barbell.
  • Take a narrow (slightly narrower then shoulder width) grip on the barbell, while keeping your upper arm vertical.
  • For reaching the starting position, push the barbell up until your arms are vertical above your chest.
  • Slowly move the barbell back down, moving only your forearms.
  • End the downward movement when the barbell is nearly touching your forehead.
  • Push the barbell back up, while still holding your upper arm in a fixed position.

  • Perform the exercise in a controlled manner throughout the entire exercise.

  • Let your training partner help you, if you have trouble reaching your desired number of repetitions. Your training partner can help by slightly pushing the middle of the barbell in a steady upward movement.
